About the Department:
The Department of orthopaedics was started in the year 2021 in the 1st floor of hospital block, Government Medical College, Ariyalur. The Department of Orthopaedics specialises in conservative and surgical treatment of various Orthopaedic problems. Patients who need emergency care are attended to
24 x 7 in the Emergency services.
IP floor has separate male, female & Post OP wards. Totally 90 beds are available with 30 for each unit. OP functions daily. OT functions three days in a week. Other than routine trauma cases, special surgeries like Arthroplasty, Paediatric deformity correction are all being carried out. Apart from regular Ortho OT, as per TAEI protocol efforts are being made for emergency surgery within 6 hours of injury by establishing separate Ortho Trauma OT. Overall the department is being grown in stature, quality and efficiency day by day.
The MBBS students who enter the clinical postings every year from the third semester onwards are rotated in various teaching schedules for system based learning such as clinical demo classes, case presentations, to impart ability to diagnose and manage common Orthopaedic disorders.
